On October 16, 2014, His Excellency the
Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, proclaimed
2015 as the Year of Sport in Canada. 2015 had some incredible sporting
moments- both across the country and locally in Ottawa. The Ottawa Sport Council was delighted to be a partner in many of the local highlights. Our successes in 2015 included the following:
• We now count over 200 Ottawa sport organizations
in our network including cricket, gaelic football, swimming, skating,
cycling, softball, basketball, ultimate, triathlon, rugby, soccer,
hockey, gymnastics, waterpolo, canoe, kayak …
• We engaged in over 100+ consultations with community sport organizations;
• We hosted 8 webinars and educated over 1000 participants;
• We facilitated a Federal Election Candidate Survey where we highlighted the importance of support for community sport organizations;
• We hosted our second annual Ottawa Sport Summit for over 100 Summit Attendees;
• Our mentorship program was launched and is now supporting 4 Community Sport Projects;
• And we raised over $18,000 for the Ottawa Sport Council Foundation
We are excited to make 2016 even better!
To kick off the year, we pleased to announce the launch of the 2016 Ottawa Sport Council Foundation Fund. The Ottawa Sport Council Foundation is a Charitable Endowment fund established in partnership with Community Foundation of Ottawa and the True Sport Foundation with the goal of providing support to Ottawa Community Sporting Organizations.
The focus of the 2016 Fund will be to
assist community sport organizations to establish new programs in
underserviced neighbourhoods and to increase opportunities for
participation in sport activities embracing True Sport principles (Go For It, Play Fair, Respect Others, Have Fun, Stay Healthy, Include Everyone, Give Back) in underserviced neighbourhoods in Ottawa.
Incorporated not-for-profit organizations
that offer sport programs in Ottawa and have operated and been
incorporated for at least one year in Ontario are encouraged to apply.
All applications must be submitted no later than Friday March 4, 2016 at 17:00.
